The fact about teenager Abortions!

the fact about teenager abortions

Nikhita(name changed), aged 16, walks into a health center, meets the local gynecologist. She poses as a pregnant teen, who desires an abortion. "When I walked into this health center, I didn't feel guilty or uncomfortable. It looked so casual. There were other young girls like me. They all were 16, 18, 19... All she said was: "We'll do your abortion if the fetus is less than 27 days old, it can be ruptured using medicines. We'll put in pills inside the vagina by hand. This way is fast and cost only $26.

In the quiet, dirty bylanes of urban India, young teenage girls who get into spot-of-trouble after non-stop romping sessions in cars are looking for simple, speedy fixes if they get pregnant. "Young girls walk into abortion centers like they walk into beauty parlors for a facial," says Adya.

Welcome to the gloomy world of teen abortions. In fact, the government has just woken to the growing, urban truth of teenage abortions. And the central management plans to make it compulsory for women to register their pregnancies and wants abortions to be carried only in particular circumstances. Says a high Court lawyer, "Women under 18, need parental permission to get an abortion. If they don't, there's no crime, you can't punish anyone. So, there's a loophole. And doctors can abort if there's any risk to the girl's life."

According to National Family Health Survey (NFHS) there are a rising number of teen abortions. The big matter is: don't parents have the right to know, if their young girl is getting an abortion, or taking a pill? A (name not written) mother of two girls maintains that she should be told if her 13-year-old daughter, -(---), goes to a gynecologist  for sex-related treatment or advice.

As society speedily changes, so does the face of abortions. Says a gynecologist, "There's a change in thoughts of teenage girls who get pregnant. Prior, they would be very anxious and worried. They would create stories."

Confidentiality is a main concern for teenage girls and other lonely women. Says executive diector of Mamta, "Youth abortions are nothing new. Though, face of abortions has changed. Sorrowfully, young girls still don't know how to handle their sexuality." Says a gynecologist, "Young girls in cities, aren't anxious by abortions. The abortion tablet has changed preceptions. It's seen as the easiest immediate. So many girls just do it at home. And come running to health centers , when bleeding doesn’t stop."And at that time they need emergency treatment.
